I am just trying to understand my hair, to learn what works and what doesn't, to experiment, make mistakes, and to embrace my hair in it's entirety..... because Roots Don't Lie

My current Hair Regimen

Hey Guys,

I have been doing pretty much the same thing with my hair for a couple of months now and although my regimen is not perfect I am comfortable enough to share it and off course I'll tweak it as time goes on.
Please refer to my previous post on Products I Currently Use

  1. I shampoo my hair, with any shampoo I feel like,  about every 2 weeks. I used to shampoo more often in the summer but as its getting cold I find my hair does not get dirty or itchy as during the summer. I am not very picky with my shampoo I find they basically all do the same thing so yeah no magic potion shampoo out there. lol.
  2. After each wash I deep condition with any deep conditioner of choice. I used to deep condition for at least 5 hours or just overnight, but lately I just deep condition for about 2 hours because I don't have as much time. I will try to deep condition more often since my hair is now colored.
  3. I usually de-tangle after deep conditioning because at this point my hair is very moisturized and all the knots just melt away.
  4. After deep conditioning I put my hair in twists so they can air dry, and this helps to prepare my hair for whatever style I intend to wear my hair in
  5. Depending on how much time I anticipate having to spend on my hair, or the mood I'm in, I either put my hair in mini twists which I wear for about a month, or wear a puff, up-do, or bun till the next wash day.
Note:
Sometimes I feel my hair needs moisture and so midweek I de-tangle, re-moisturize my hair and put back in twists. I find myself also trying more up-do's because my hair is a lot longer and I can do more with it. I still dislike bobby pins but till I find an alternative I will wave my white flag of surrender. I hope to try out more products, but at the same time I find myself buying less products because simply, the ones I have already work.

However I am open to doing more product reviews so if you have heard of any good products let me know so I can try them out.

Hopefully this is simple and explanatory enough. If anyone will like a pictorial tutorial on any of the steps mentioned above please feel free to leave a comment and I will work on those.

Thanks for reading

XOXO

Hair Products I Currently Use

Hey Guys,

I want to give a quick update on the hair products I am currently using:

Shampoo:
  • Burt's Bees Raspberry and Brazil Nut shampoo.
  • Aveda Color Conserve 'for Color Treated Hair'
  • Dove  Damage Therapy Shampoo
  • Herbal essences Hello Hydration
I have had the Burt's bees and Herbal essence shampoo since I did my Big Chop and I used them alternatively. They are almost finished but I probably will not re-purchase them because I just got the Dove and Aveda shampoos and from my estimate it will take me about a year if not more to go through these two bottles.

Other Cleaners:
  • Terresentials Organic Pure Earth Mud Wash Organic Cool Mint
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
I really love this mud wash, it cleans my hair without completely leaving it stripped. I do like for my hair to be completely clean when I wash it though because my hair itches a lot and I get product build up very easily, so I only use this when my hair is not too dirty and I don't have time for a deep condition. I use my ACV rinse after every wash and also to loosen up dirt when I've had my mini twists in for a while. I will take a break from using the mud wash on my hair now since it is color treated and I am not exactly sure how it may affect it.

Conditioners:
  • Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut conditioner
  • Giovanni 50:50 Balanced Hydrating-calming Conditioner
  • Giovanni Direct leave in conditioner
  • Bed Head TIGI Recovery Conditioner
  • Aveda dry remedy
I bought a huge bottle of the Bed Head and the Giovanni 50:50 conditioner and that's what I've been using lately. I find that in the winter I don't feel the need to wash my hair as often and once it gets hot again and I'm washing my hair more frequently I will perhaps buy more conditioners.

Leave-In Conditioners:
  • Curl Junkie smoothing lotion
  • Curl Junkie Argan and olive oil daily hair conditioner
My hair loves loves loves these leave in conditioners, and this is by far the best I have tried. I use them alternatively but they are pricey.

Sealants:
  • Safi Hair care Hairsicle Cream
  • Oyin Handmade Burnt sugar Pomade (new)
  • Oyin Handmade sugar berries pomade (new)
  • My own shea butter and essential oils mix
I just started trying out the Oyin handmade products which are the same except for the scent.

Deep Conditioners:
  • Curl Junkie curl rehad
  • My own deep conditioning mix
Protein Treatment
  • ApHogee 2 minute reconstructer
  • ApHogee balancing moisturizer
Hair Gels:
  • Eco Styler clear gel
  • Curl junkie curls in a bottle
Oils:
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Peppermint Oil
  • Natural Curlz Annointed Hair Oil
  • Shea butter
  • Sweet Almond Oil
  • Jojoba Oil
I just got the natural curlz oil and the smell is amazing

Miscellaneous:
  • Taliah Waajid protective mist bodifier
  • Witch hazel
I use these on my scalp whenever it itches

I do not use all these products at the same time, and sometimes I even go months without using a lot of these products. If anyone would like me to do a product review on any of these products or if you have questions on any  product please let me know.

Hope you enjoyed
