From Puff to Bun

Hey Guys,

I started off with a 3 day old twist out and decided I needed a sleek look for a meeting I had the next day.

To achieve the Smooth look you will need:
  • A stretched out Hair Band
  • Hair Pins
  • Some Shea butter for your edges
  • Boar bristle brush
  • Spray bottle with water
  • Satin Scarf
Steps:
  • Use your hands to smooth your hair to the top of your head where you want the bun to be.
  • Use the hair brush, to brush up the hair, making sure to smooth out the edges, as gently as possible.
  • I doubled my hair band and put my hair into a puff.
  • Using your hand, grab hair from the puff and stretch out as much as possible.
  • Grab sections from the puff, roll forward over the hair band, tuck and pin.
  • Smooth down any loose ends with bobby pins.
  • Spritz your edge with water, apply Shea butter, and tie hair down with a satin scarf

Before:

After:

To maintain at night:
  • Tie down the edges with a satin scarf, to reduce any frizz.
  • Cover with a  satin bonnet.

Product Trial Group Review: April 2013 Review by Yetunde

Hey Guys,

Here is Miss Yetunde's review of the Oyin Handmade Juices and Berries Leave-in Conditioner.

Enjoy

Review by Miss Yetunde

·         Trials: about 15

·         How I used it:

o   I used this as a daily leave-in conditioner with hopes that it would make my hair softer, detangle it and decrease the amount of hair breakage.  As part of my morning routine, I would spray the product in my dry hair until slightly damp, then run a wide-toothed comb through my hair to detangle.  I then went about my daily business while letting it air dry.

·         Review:

o   On the plus side, the product made my hair smell good enough to eat and it did make it a little softer and easier to detangle each morning.  But to be honest, I achieved this same effect by my own easily made product (water + conditioner + a little olive oil).  This homemade mixture did the exact same thing as the Oyin leave-in without the nice smell, so I personally don’t think it’s worth the $14 I spent on it.  Overall, I was kind of disappointed.

·         Buy again:

o   No

Hope you enjoyed.

Note: For the month of April we will be reviewing the 'As I Am- Coconut Co-Wash' stay tuned for those reviews.

Product Trial Group Review: April 2013 Review by Miss Kech

Hey Guys,

Here is another review of the Oyin Handmade Leave-in by Miss Kech.

Enjoy

Product Review: Oyin Handmade Juice & Berries nourishing herbal leave in hair tonic

Price: $12

Trail Period: About 2 weeks - April 2013

Hair type:
My hair is natural and very thick and coarse. My ends are usually dry, and require a lot of moisture to keep it from breaking. Even when I use moisturizers, my ends tend to dry out quickly.

How I used it:

- I spritzed it on my hair before styling and after styling.
- Also focused on my ends to keep them moisturized and soft
- For De-tangling

I had used this product before a few years back, when my hair was shorter, and all I would do were wash and go. It helped well as I could carry the bottle in my bag and spritz whenever I needed, especially in the dry winter and hot sun. However, when I did use it this second time around, I didn't get the same results. The results were not bad, just not what I expected. I can do better with water and oils that I already have.

Pros

- It is convenient and quick to use
- Very light
- Smells amazing!
- Leaves my hair feeling moisturized at first

Cons

- Have to keep on reapplying to keep hair moisturized

- Tends to make the hands sticky.

- Doesn't last and doesn't leave hair as moisturized as a regular leave-in

Ratings: 3 out 5 stars

I will probably end up using up the bottle I have eventually, but I don't think I'll be purchasing another bottle.

Product Trial Group Review: April 2013 'Oyin Handmade'

Hey Guys,

Check out Ms Tega's review of the Oyin Handmade Frank Juice. For more about MS. Tega check out her blog Social Hermit

Review By Ms Tega:

Oyin Handmade Frank Juice

Purpose: The secret is this: spring water, strongly infused with a variety of herbs known to help condition and stimulate the scalp, thus encouraging hair growth; vegetable ingredients for detangling, moisture and suppleness; vegetable glycerin for humectancy and shine; and an essential oil blend nutritious to the scalp. This formula is excellent for a daily pick-me-up on cornrows or twists.

Price: $13.99 at home store or on their website.

Trials: Multiple

How I used it:
  • 1.       On dry loose hair a few days after wash day
  • 2.       On dry twisted hair mid-week
  • 3.       On Havana twists
  • 4.       On yarn braids

Ingredients: Aqueous infusion of shave grass leaf, lavender buds, nettle leaf, chamomile flower, and red rose petals; organic flax seeds; organic aloe leaf juice; vegetable glycerin; lavender oil, orange peel oil, grapefruit seed extract; citric acid, fragrance oil and love!

Review:

I’ve been hip to the Oyin handmade bandwagon for over a year now but I’ve still tried only about 4 of their products (till a few days ago; in love with Oyin now, story for another day). But Frank Juice was one of the first Oyin Handmade products I tried and I have to say I absolutely adore it!

First of all it has this awesome sent of Frankincense and Myrrh; it’s pretty much what a sexy man smells like in my head. And seeing as Eva (my hair) is a girl, that’s probably weird right? Oh well. I have a thing for men’s cologne. Ok, on the real though, this spray smells absolutely divine! It’s one of those products where the fragrance stays in your hair all day long. When the wind randomly blows in the perfect direction you get a whiff of what your hair smells like and fall in love all over again.

It’s also perfect for moisture. I usually have water and glycerin in a spray bottle and it’s what I use 90% of the time for daily moisture. But once or twice a week, I’ll grab this bottle for infusion of other ingredients and use it as my moisturizer in the morning. Now you have to recognize that this is a spray and not a creamy product. So just like water, you don’t spray it on and immediately get cotton candy soft hair. You have to give your hair a few minutes to absorb it and then soften up.

Buy Again: Yes.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
